Nordair Ltd. began as Boreal Airways and was founded by Francois “Frank” Ross in 1947 as a charter service out of Lac St. Jean Quebec. In 1957 Boreal merged with Mount Laurier Aviation to handle the large DEW line contracts and took the name Nordair. Although Maritime Central Airways was a principal shareholder of Nordair, the company always remained as a separate entity.
In 1968 Nordair purchased its first Boeing 737-200, CF-NAB. The move to jets allowed further expansion of operations in the North and Charter work to warmer destinations. Nordair was eventually purchased by CP Air and later absorbed by Air Canada.
